Beta 11 – Car Dock Home v3

17 November, 2010 (00:27) | Uncategorized | By: IG 88

I’ve put the car mode back in the launcher. I think I have it right this time… fixed a few other crashes that have been reported through the automated crash reporting system. Available in the market, and on the app page.

I just do the software form the market when I plug my p
Droid 2 into the mount I still get the old version of the car dock that came with the phone. What do I need to do to get this to work I got the donation version today. Did I need to have a rooted phone ? Sorry for the noon questions.

Please let me know if this works. I think I’m getting this a lot lately, and have tried to work up something to eliminate this question. But that is all based on an assumption about what is wrong.

The launcher icon in beta 11 is a car dock simulator. The actually car mode home activity is hidden. So when the car dock is simulated, the operating system tries to resolve which activity should run. Sometimes you get a menu, if there is more than one activity that can satisfy the request. That menu includes an option to make your selection the default. After you make something the default, it stays the default until you clear the defaults for that app, or uninstall the app.

So try clearing the defaults for the Google Car Home. You can do this by going through: ‘Settings’ -> ‘Applications’ -> ‘Manage Applications’, and then opening the details view for ‘Car Home’. Depending on the version of your phone’s OS, you may have to either press the menu button to get to where you can change the filter to ‘all’, or change the tab on the application list so it is ‘all’. Once you have the details open for ‘Car Home’, select the button ‘Clear defaults’ under the section ‘Launch by default’… There is NO need to ‘Clear data’.

After you do this… launch the beta 11 launcher icon again. You should now get a menu to choose your default car home app. You should be able now to set Car Dock v3 as your default.

If this does solve your problem, please take a moment to confirm that here. I’d like to add something to the app to help make this clear, but I am hesitant to do so without confirmation.

Thanks!

On my droid 2 the program is listed as car dock not google car home. There is nothing on my phone to my knowledge that has that title. When I go to car dock there are no defaults to reset or clear the button to do so is disabled. I do see on the list your app that says car dock donation. So what do I do ?

Actually I don’t even have the beta 11 launcher on my phone however on the program list it is there. Very odd.

Ok, I think I understand now… I thought you had a problem with it going to the Car Home that Google/Motorola ships, instead of one of my apps…

It sounds like at this time, you only have Car Dock Donation on your device. That is just a key. You need to go to the market and install ‘Car Dock Home v3′

It will provide a launcher icon. I’ve changed it so it doesn’t look just like the v2 app, since they can co-exist and would be confused.

With v3, if you launch it, before simulating a physical car dock, it will test your phone to verify that it is the car home that will run when your phone is in car mode. If this test fails, it will show a dialog that names the app that is set as the car home. The dialog contains instructions, but basically you have to go to ‘manage applicatons’ for whatever app it shows you, and clear the defaults for that app.

Then when you use my launcher icon or dock next, the OS will prompt for which car home should be used.
